Copy and save for later reference. You will need it sooner or later! Get a new Nissan Mast and Cable Assembly (<$50.) Remove the old one with a tool (a needle-nose pliers, works fine) that will twist both sides of the top Antenna cap on the rear fender. Carefully twist CCWise. Turn on the radio. If the old nylon antenna rope (cable) is still in the hole, it should come all the way out. You'll know it does if it still has a tapered end, or it will be the same length as the new one. If it isn't, The whole antenna motor needs to be removed. Important: Keep the 3" stop sleeve from the old antenna that didn't come on the new parts, and the cap nut and base gasket. (they may not be available) To Remove the antenna motor you need to remove the trunk trim. 5-6 gray plastics plugs that pull out (by hand or w/ a claw hammer), separate Velcro seams and either remove seat belt bolt (under gray cap) or carefully pull back on carpet trim to reveal 2 gold Philips screws holding the antenna motor housing. (There maybe a ground screw as well.) Using a flashlight, unplug the antenna and wire harness, as well as the drain hose. Remove assembly. This is where things get messy. The left over, broken piece of the antenna rope is in the "bell" housing. Keep careful track of your next steps and where the parts belong. There is a nut and bolt through the center of the "bell" and 4 screws that hold on the mounting bracket frame. Pull apart; look for leftover greasy nylon rope and remove. Leave as much grease inside housing and reassemble the antenna's motor housing. Reinstall the antenna assembly. Don't forget to install drain with no kinks. To Reinstall the rope cable and rod mast: Have some one in the driver's seat. Slide on the 3" stop sleeve on the rod. While parallel to the fender, with the antenna rope curled in the direction it will curl go into the "bell" (geared teeth toward rear). Insert the strait lead of the nylon rope. Have the radio turned on. While lightly pushing down you should feel and hear a gentle grinding noise. Stop pushing but keep some pressure and wait until it stops. Have the radio turned off. As the rope is now being pulled in, guide the rod also into the hole. It should go all the way down. Replace gasket and tighten antenna nut by hand and then some more with tool. Turn radio back on...you're done. Information from Lewis at www.carstereohelp.com ALL CAR STEREOS REPAIRED 1200 Solana Avenue - Unit G Winter Park, Florida 32789-2317 (407) 599-8303 Fax (407) 599-8301
